“Back to life… back to reality…”

Back in the 80s, (when life seemed so much simpler!), Soul II Soul‘s chart-topping hit was not only a song to jam out to – it helped people groove into a new school year or a new work week.
Today, it continues to serve a dual-purpose.
Leaping into the coziest season of all, its normal to feel a little out of sorts as a new reality sets into place.
Social distancing is now imbedded into our lifestyle, kids are heading back to school (despite the health risks), and in-office work is more common than it has been in nearly half a year.
Change takes time to adjust to, and when you consciously make an effort to change for the better, your days become a little less stressful. Your mind is at ease knowing you’re taking all the precautions to keep you and your family safe.

What Is Conscious Living?

Conscious living means to be aware of your body, mind and emotions on all levels.
An example of conscious living is making sure you take a breath before you say something you don’t really mean.
Conscious living doesn’t have to be complicated – it’s a simple practice that encourages you to honour yourself in all that you do.
After summer vacation ends and life gets busier, paying attention to and taking care of your body, mind and emotions is even more important.

5 Ways To Head back To Reality, Consciously

If you’re finding the transition “back to reality” difficult at this time, try adding one (or more) of the practices listed below into your daily routine.

1. Meditate

For centuries, people have been meditating to relieve stress. Studies have shown that mediation leads to decreased cell volume in the cerebral hemisphere (the emotional centre of our brains). When you meditate, you’re relaxing your stress and fear centres, calming your mind and entering a new state of consciousness.

Try this short meditation out when tensions are high.

2. Think Before You Speak

If someone says something that isn’t sitting right with you, take five slow and steady breaths to drown out the anger you feel rising through you. Then, kindly respond from a place of love.

When you think before you speak, you give clarity to a situation. Even if you don’t see eye-to-eye with someone, you allow the conversation to be more peaceful in nature by speaking calmly.

3. Live In Your Alignment

Feeling stuck in the present times? Find what moves you and inspires you.

We’re all born with a blueprint of our life, and when we live in alignment with our truest selves, we feel centred, relaxed and at ease.

Try unblocking any of the limiting beliefs you may have, then write down what it means to be in alignment for you. You may feel called to change careers or to simply go with the flow. Once you’ve written down what this looks like for you, write down simple, actionable steps to rise to your highest self.[/vc_column_text][image_with_animation image_url=”8901″ animation=”Fade In” hover_animation=”none” alignment=”” border_radius=”none” box_shadow=”none” image_loading=”default” max_width=”100%” max_width_mobile=”default”][vc_column_text]

4. Give gratitude

By taking the time to share gratitude, you relax into the present moment, releasing stress and opening yourself up to profound change. Having a daily gratitude practice increases your self-awareness and places you in a more present, calm state.

Write down five things you’re grateful for each day and keep this practice going for at least 21 more. After 21 days, you’ll start to see a shift in your mindset and will consciously seek others who live grateful lives.

5. Build Up Your ‘No’ Muscle

When you live in alignment with your truest self, your attitude shifts and you realize there are certain things you just don’t want to do anymore. Through the art of saying “no“, you consciously step into your power and only make time for the things that bring you joy.
Obviously we can’t always say no to working and living, but saying no to an activity that doesn’t bring you joy will open new and exciting opportunities.
