One of my resolutions this year has been to romanticize all of my relationships – we have often only reserved romance for intimate relationships and I have been wanting to explore romance outside of that. While I am single and in order to connect with myself and those around me here are some things I have been doing in order to romanticize my relationships in hopes of creating deeper, emotional connections.
Write love letters
In the past few months, I have taken the time to write letters to my loved ones – this has been a great way for me to connect with myself, analyze my feelings and put them down on paper. It’s a way for me to be vulnerable with those around me as well as myself. The act of writing letters requires a lot of intentions that your loved ones will feel when reading the letter. You can also write letters to yourself, it is a great exercise of recognizing your growth and seeing your progression over time.
Part of adulthood is being busy, with work, school and other obligations we may have, it is hard for us to make time for those around us. I have made a commitment to plan monthly dates with my friends, this has allowed me to look forward to something every month, nurture my relationships and make sure that there hasn’t been extreme gaps between the last time I saw one of my friends.
Taking more photos
I don’t think anyone will regret taking too many photos, whether it is via cell phone or with a camera capturing memories to look back on- it is honestly something I am so grateful I started doing. From my favourite makeup looks, to a cute bird I saw on a walk to my favourite coffee shop, I capture as much as I can because those moments are precious. I can not only look back at them but I can also share them with my loved ones. I recently purchased a film camera and I am looking forward to capturing memories that can be more tangible.
Exchange your favourite books with your loved one
I am slowly becoming a bookworm, it’s been allowing me to learn and reconnect with my inner child. Once I am done with my new read I send my friends a review, share my thoughts and favourite quotes and then we exchange books. While reading their book I get to see what they highlighted, their notes, they also get to see my notes – it is a great way to connect with each other and talk about some of the things that impacted us while reading these books.
Creating monthly playlist
I have always admired curated playlists and for that reason I have been creating my own monthly playlist. It has allowed me to discover new music and rediscover old music. Creating these curated playlists have allowed me to have my very own soundtracks of how I want to feel during the month.
I am still learning how to make the most of my life, to make small everyday things become lifelong memories that I cherish for the rest of my life. Especially when I feel like the world is upside down, these simple things have allowed me to make me feel like things will and can get better.
