Beauty At Any Age: Makeup in Your 20’s

As I kick off this series, the thoughts of what beauty was like when I was 20, makes me laugh but also cringe at some of the things I used to do and used to like. I immediately think of my barely there brows and my frosty white eye shadow. Scary thoughts I know, but that’s what was totally coveted at the time.

Most days, I wish I could go back and put into action some of the advice that was given when I was younger. What I find special about makeup in your 20’s is that you can get away with anything. I really mean anything. This is truly the best time to create good skin habits and discover what works best for you.

Not sure where to start? No problem! Here are my top 5 tips for finding what really works for you in your 20’s.

This might sound cliché, but starting now with the right skincare can truly make or break the quality of your skin as you age. Once you hit the age of 25, the natural moisture in your skin starts to diminish and fine lines start appearing. Fun right?!

If you’re not sure what to pick up, I recommend getting a referral from your doctor and visit a dermatologist. You’ll be amazed at all the info you will leave with and feel less confused about what you should be doing with your skin.

I’m with your mom on this one! I cannot stress enough about the importance of SPF.

The sun will age you fastest out of any other element. Make sure to use a broad spectrum that protects against UVA and UBV rays. Since sun protection is now a staple in any beauty routine, I recommend looking for either a foundation that has minimum of SPF 15 or 30. You can also pick up some great daytime moisturizers that are loaded with SPF to layer under your foundation.

Okay, lecture over.

Along the same lines as the above two steps, finding the right foundation base with take you from job interview to a night on the town. With all the innovation in foundations on the market, I recommend picking one up that caters to your skin type and coverage preference.

If you’re looking for natural and undetectable coverage, check out a BB cream or a cushion foundation. If you need more coverage that can be built up to full glam, try a cream or stick base foundation. Whatever your budget, you will find great options at the drugstore or Sephora.

Now’s the time to play with colour and get creative! As a die-hard neutrals girl, I feel this tip is difficult at any age. However, I do remember my best looks when I was younger; always had a colourful element to them. This is also a great way to bring out and compliment your eye colour or enhance your lips.

Whether it be adding a bright liner along the eye or in the water line or even a brighter or darker lip than normal, sometimes its surprising what you end up loving.

My last tip might be obvious but getting enough sleep shows in your skin and benefits you in your everyday daily grind. I remember my Dermatologist sharing that the first 2 hours before midnight is the most reparative time for your skin to rejuvenate itself. This means going to bed around 10:00pm and waking up earlier, to do all the things you need to do, before heading off to school or work.

I know–easier said than done, friends.
