In February, we started a brand new series on STYLE Canada: #BeautyFind Friday, otherwise known as your new #BFF. Every Friday, STYLE editor Anastasia Barbuzzi will present you with a #BeautyFind to help you enjoy a weekend of self-love and care like no other. She’s all over the green beauty scene and on #BeautyFind Fridays, she’ll be giving you the inside scoop on products and brands that are changing the space, and one’s you’ve just gotta try. Full permission to begin daydreaming about your next *add to cart* item.
What would skincare be nowadays without self-massage? I don’t know about you, but my routine wouldn’t be complete without a little manual exfoliation and lymphatic drainage. I mean, the feel of a dry brush gliding across my jawline as soft and gentle as Midnight Paloma’s could literally put me to sleep. Though the Ayurvedic dry brushing method has been around for centuries, its only increased in popularity over the last couple of years. There’s no reason for you to toss your collection of gemstone jade rollers and gua shas aside, but I do suggest you make some room on your vanity for this special Facial Dry Brush. Scroll to find out why.
First impressions: Anything that Midnight Paloma creates is just… adorable. The Facial Dry Brush comes in its own recyclable cylinder and the brush itself is designed to fit the palm of your hand for easy use. What intrigued me most about the Facial Dry Brush was the fact that its bristles are nylon rather than scratchy sisal or woody boar’s hair. The compact, pearl-white brush head was something I wanted to rub all over my face, immediately.
Talkin’ specifics: In addition to the gentle exfoliation the Facial Dry Brush from Midnight Paloma provides, sweeping away dead skin cells and turning them over quicker, this handy tool also helps boost circulation, brighten, even skin tone, and firm texture. The Facial Dry Brush reduces puffiness, smoothes fine lines, reduces the size and appearance of pores, and improve sinus movement as well. Phew!
The experience: If there’s one thing this dry brush promises judging by its appearance, it’s softness. The Facial Dry Brush feels like a dream on the skin, especially if you’re on the sensitive side. The design is more than convenient for tiny hands, allowing for the kind of deep tissue massage you thought only your favourite facialist or spa tech was capable of. Following the simple directions Midnight Paloma provides on a fold-out pamphlet, a few minutes of dry brushing will have you rose-y and reenergized. (Watch the video above for a mini tutorial!)
The verdict: I believe that in combination with some jade rolling and good ol’ hand massage, the Midnight Paloma Facial Dry Brush has helped reduce signs of inflammation in my skin, contributed to making it look and feel tighter, and more even-toned. Using this tool first thing in the morning is a great way to stimulate the skin at a deeper level, though my favourite time to use it may be right before bed. When my head hits the pillow, I’ll snatch the Facial Dry Brush from my bedside table and make sure I massage over my forehead and along my jawline, (where I hold quite a bit of tension), with my eyes closed. Then I’ll follow that up with a layer of Kora Organics’ Noni Glow Sleeping Mask, (featured in last week’s #BFF!), and send myself off to sleep. If you’re seeking a new before bed ritual to calm yourself right down, I highly recommend.
