Burberry Is Returning To The Runway For SS21 – Here’s How

On Sept. 17, 2020, London-based fashion label Burberry will return to the runway in England to debut its Spring/Summer 2021 collection via live stream.

At the end of June, the brand made a statement about the show’s design elements being “pure and simple” and symbolic of Burberry’s strides to reduce carbon emissions.

Riccardo Tisci, Chief Creative Officer of Burberry, said the experience will be “certified carbon neutral, ensuring measures are taken to reduce the presentation’s environmental impact.”

Although the location of the venue has yet to be revealed, we’re still excited about the British fashion house’s plans for the fall.

For many brands, COVID-19’s interference with the fashion calendar has put a pause on showcasing new collections. Ever since, luxury houses like Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent have rejected its seasonal approach altogether. Needless to say, they will not be showing during fashion week and instead, will host runway shows in accordance with their own schedules.

Similar to Burberry, some brands are leveraging the “new normal” as a way to broaden their digital audiences. On July 6, Dior was one of the first designer labels to showcase a Resort 2021 collection during the pandemic. In the scenic region of Puglia, Italy, an intimate gathering of close friends and family was recorded for extended audiences to view.

“We would like to send a message of hope, of optimism, and for some people, rebirth after this period of difficulty,” said Pietro Beccari, CEO and president of Dior, when asked about the importance of hosting a runway show during a global pandemic.

Canadian brands are adopting a “show must go on” attitude when it comes to showcasing their latest creations as well. Read about how the designers behind Cassandra Elizabeth, Neoteny ApparelGORM, and other labels are presenting their collections during Fashion Art Toronto (FAT) here.
