TFI Press Event

Last week I checked out the Toronto Fashion Incubator’s AW17 Press and Buyers Brunch, which showcased curated emerging designers and I was beyond impressed. Below are the brands that really caught my eye:

FURious Fur

Created by Philippa Madigan and Natasha Hughes, produces the, “highest quality faux fur fabric on the market.” I was in shock—I thought the fur was real until one of the designers told me otherwise. Their new collection pays tribute to “old world glamour with a flair of 70s chic” and is approved by none other than PETA.

Designed by Emile Kambele, provides customers with a stylist to take perfect measurements to create high quality ethically produced jeans with fabric straight from Italy, that are then manufactured in Montreal. Mixing ethics with couture is always a good combo in my books.

Combines chic and affordable eyewear. I tried on a pair and immediately inquired about purchasing. Founders Mars Cai and Shawn Xu produce gorgeous sunglasses that are 100% UV protected.

Uses organic, eco-dyed, fair trade textiles that she designs herself, which are sustainably produced in Canada, India, and Peru to create striking and colourful clothing. My favourite part—everything folds-up very thin which is perfect for travelling!

Founder Lindsay Fairty of LINDO F uses real fur to create very unique designs. Her toques have a snap on fur ball on top and her fur bandanas are incredibly chic and original. Her line contains several fur products from jackets to headbands.

Offers beautiful jewelry featuring natural stones, minerals, nacre, and crystals selected for their beauty and energy while finished with 18k electroplated gold, gunmetal plating, and others uncoated. Ontario-based founder Liana Louzon’s beautiful designs and passion for her work show in the product.

Statement company NOPAULAGIES ATHLEISUREWEAR creates lifestyle apparel. Everything is made from organic cotton and modal, while being ethically produced in Toronto and Los Angeles.

Canadian womenswear brand RALSTON WILLIAMS announces their Fall 17 Collection inspired by Lawren Harris: The idea of North. Made in Canada, an amazing, high-fashioned line made from fine Italian fabrics. Easy-to-wear was important to Mary Beth Currie in creating this line as you will never need someone to help you do up your buttons. Everything is made easy to put on while keeping you looking chic.
